The early days of Radcliffe saw a rather quirky wooden building on land where houses now stand. In 1996 the first part of the current building was built.  Subsequent extensions to the kitchen and the addition of a dormitory room have made the centre the great resource that it is today. 

None of this would have happened without the huge amount of time and effort given by the management committee.  In particular Christina and Bert Smith who have been the most consistent part of Radcliffe over this time, tirelessly organising fundraising, maintaining the property and managing bookings (including letting users in and out).  

Last year the management committee discussed with Christina and Bert purchasing a legacy in their name that would benefit all the users of the centre. A clock was proposed, with the stipulation that it had real numbers that could be seen from the field behind the centre!

Sadly Bert passed away earlier this year, and everyone connected with Radcliffe misses him hugely. We hope that the clock that was unveiled earlier this month by Christina and her daughter is a fitting tribute to Bert and Christina and all the time they have given to Radcliffe.
