Tis the season of mellow fruitfulness…. what have the people of girlguiding Croydon been doing? Have you heard of #GuidingforGood? Girlguides all over Croydon have been showing what they can do for good – I’m sure there are more than the event listed here.

22nd October – A tasty night tonight….luckily no explosions in the microwave.

22nd October – Thornton Heath Rainbows made rangoli patterns and sweet samosas for Diwali.

20th October – 1st Thornton Heath “Power rangers” having some carving fun tonight…. though some made me wince handling sharp tools!

17th October – 5th & 7th Shirley Guides learnt that ‘Money Matters’ this week! UMA – Run the risk where we learnt about profit and loss, using buttons as our currency, followed by a ‘Money Talks’ activity where we thought about our budgets and how to be responsible with spending! All girls received their Money confident badges.

17th October – This week, 9th Selsdon Brownies explored brands, including their own personal brand, in the Brand Your Band UMA (Skills for my Future). First we looked at what makes a brand, guessing logos (how many can you get?). 18/21 is the score to beat. Then we thought about how groups and individuals create and evolve their brand (recognise any of these guys..) Next the girls worked in Sixes to create and brand their own bands, with distinct personalities.

16th October – 8th Purley Brownies took part in Restart a Heart tonight. They did so well practising how to pass info on to emergency services, CPR and recovery position.

16th October – 16th Purley and Kenley Rainbows were Guiding for Good this afternoon, all collected from the Church grounds.

15th October – 1st Shirley Rainbows loved doing the LaSER Compendium of Game badge.

15th October – Tonight we had the new CEO of Girlguiding come along and visit the unit to see what we get up to. Tonight the Guides were making egg landers/rockets from the LaSER Finding My Space badge. Felicity got fully involved and made their own rocket as well. Only one egg survived the drop from the gallery we have at the church.

15th October – #guidingforgood 1st Selsdon Rainbows planted crocus in the Selsdon Baptist church garden and did cups of kindness 3rd Selsdon Brownies planted crocus and decorated stones with kind words for the children’s garden at St John’s church.

10th October – 11th Sanderstead Brownies filled MHA Hall Grange with joy! They were treated to an evening of Harvest songs, dancing and gymnastics. Residents were truly touched by the beautiful handmade cards, lavender bags, gift boxes, and sweet treats that had been made for every resident. Such a thoughtful gesture and brought smiles and even some tears of joy An all round heartwarming evening full of smiles, laughter, and togetherness

10th October – #guidingforgood 9th Selsdon Brownies gave their support to local charity St Christopher’s sorting several bags of goods donated to their charity shop on Selsdon High Street. A great way to see what goes on behind the scenes and give the shops’ own volunteers a helping hand.

8th October – The Radcliffe Centre hosted a @girlguidinglaser Guiding for Good event over the weekend with 53 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. Their combined efforts resulted in 2 bug hotels, 5 insect houses, 2 ladybird retreats and a log pile. There are 8 bird boxes and 3 bat boxes ready to be placed in trees and forest full of trees planted. We added an additional bird feeding station in our bird watching area and made fat balls to go in it. Finally we now have a fantastic branch pile for den building.  We hope that the 4 bird houses and squirrel feeder that went home find great spots in the community.

8th October – #GuidingforGood 9th Coulsdon Brownies are hoping that their efforts at brightening the church garden will surprise the everyone in the spring after they planted 115 crocus bulbs (one for every year of Girlguiding) in the grass next to the church hall.

8th October – For Black History Month, we held our annual culture night as requested by the Guides. This time round we invited the parents along and had a choice of food from everyone’s culture…from scones, jam and cream to jerk chicken, dumplings and spicy rice. Our potential new volunteer even joined in with bringing Iron Bru for us to try.

6th October – 2nd Coulsdon Rainbows took part in #GuidingforGood tonight by holding a Pyjama campfire and bringing a new pair of pj’s to donate to Children’s Hospital Pyjama charity based in Croydon.
